Mario Kart Wii reigns supreme atop UK charts
ÂÂ
Amazingly, four months after its release, Mario Kart Wii is sitting proudly at the top of the All-Formats Top 40 chart. It displaced Wii Fit with a six percent sales increase, while the flab-fighting phenomenon’s figures dropped by almost a quarter. Elsewhere, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games wound up just behind more serious rival Beijing 2008: The Official Game, and the remote-bundled Wii Play stayed in fifth spot.
Indeed, it was another amazing week for Nintendo - six games out of the top ten are exclusive to DS or Wii, with both Guitar Hero III (on Wii) and the portable Guitar Hero: On Tour continuing to sell well.
Whatever happened to Nintendo games entering the charts highly before plummeting to oblivion the next? Evidently we’re entering a new age of gaming where regular promotion and word-of-mouth are affecting sales more than ever before. Fascinating stuff.
