Hudson reveals impressive forthcoming WiiWare line-up (Alien Crush, Bomberman, Tetris)

Tetris on WiiWare from Hudson Soft

Publishers have been strangely reluctant to reveal their WiiWare, er, wares - so it’s nice to see Hudson Soft - creator of one of the best titles on the service so far in Star Soldier R - provide info about its range of software due for release over the next few months. Particularly given that two or three of the titles are looking very good indeed.

Hit the jump for shots and release dates for the likes of Bomberman Wii and - yes! - a sequel to fantastic Turbografx pinball title Alien Crush.

Hudson didn’t provide dates for two of its forthcoming games, so I’m assuming those are the ones set to arrive in April and May (Nintendo has restricted releases to one per publisher per month). JoySound is a karaoke game - presumably Hudson will be releasing a USB mic in the shops around the time of release - while Blue Oasis appears to be a virtual aquarium (and will apparently use the Wi-Fi connection, presumably for fish-swapping shenanigans).

Blue Oasis

It gets much better, though. How about an eight-player Wi-Fi version of Bomberman with Mii support? That’s on its way in June, while a new online-enabled Tetris follows a month later. Good to see a company wholeheartedly embracing Wii’s online capabilities for a change - now if only Hudson could implement voice chat somehow…

Bomberman Wii

And last, but very certainly not least, is the appetising proposition of a brand new Alien Crush game. Whether it’s a sequel or a remake of the original isn’t clear yet, but it’s certainly looking the part, and will feature online leaderboards to upload your best high-scores to. This one’s here in August.

Alien Crush - coming soon to WiiWare

Okay, none of these is particularly inventive in terms of remote-based trickery - one thing I’m hoping some WiiWare devs really make the most of - but it’s good to see a publisher providing such solid support to the service. And, with five further WiiWare titles in development, it’s clear that Hudson is confident its line-up will be a success.

Your move, Nintendo. Let’s see what you have to offer, and soon.

Yeah, it’s nice to see someone really making the effort with WiiWare. I’m expecting some really good things from the service.

I only hope Nintendo secretly has a few things lined up, though we may have to wait until E3 for news of that. Roll on July…
