EA is NOT insane: Rock Band confirmed for Wii

Wii Rock BandEA made a loss in the last quarter. Like we care about that. The only actually exciting news to come out of EA’s financial update was one thing - confirmation of a Wii version of Rock Band. Which will single-handedly generate billions for EA.

When answering questions at the end of the doom-laden financial briefing, EA boss John Riccitiello simply said that Rock Band was “coming” to Wii - but didn’t give any important details. Like when. Or if Wii will get a set of drums. Or if we’ll be supposed to make do with the Wii remote. And if it’ll cost a million pounds. Or work online. Or anything. Here’s what he said:

“In terms of pacing the next few quarters, you’re probably well aware of the more than $2.5 million music downloads that have occurred on Rock Band, and that’s a good part of the business. But what is probably the most interesting pieces right now is the coming launch on the Wii, the continued sale of the core platforms in North America and then the fiscal..”

Yeah, stop talking now, John. You’ve said the important bit. We will get to play Rock Band on Wii at some point in the future.
