Mickey Mouse Club: Disney testing interactive tourguide software for DS

disneydsmap.jpgQuick, somebody get Chessington World of Adventures on the phone! Disney is reportedly field-testing the use of DS handhelds as an interactive tour guide and map for their holiday resorts. It’s an idea that borders on genius, and that’s not praise we bestow lightly.

According to various sources like this one and this one, you plug a cartridge into your DS, and up pops a GPS-enabled map that pinpoints your location within the sprawling confines of the Magic Kingdom. The software also allows you to access information about rides, characters, and games, pointing out their locations with icons that are easy on the eye. You can also use it to find other vital facilities like the nearest first aid station, bathroom, or Mickey Mouse’s secret stash of cheese.

Last but not least, you can plot a course on the map from point A to point B. For example, if you wanted to plan which rides you wanted to go on and where, the software can lead you around the park with the most direct route. If they can somehow also get it to tell you how long the queues are for different rides, then this may be the best theme park innovation since hot dogs and candy floss.

Parking: $8. Entry ticket $65. Knowing Disney Corp knows your every move: priceless.

Sorry. Used to live in Florida. Will that thing tell me where the famed cross-state fast-train will stop too? Nope, because Disney got the project nixed as it would have only stopped at THEIR park.
