5 million Wiis sold in Japan, all your (install) base are belong to us
A company called EnterBrain has pulled together their sales data and reached a staggering conclusion: the Wii has sold 5,019,337 units since it launched in Japan.
That’s a pretty huge install base after a year and a bit on sale, and that’s without considering the continuing drama over erratic supply.
EnterBrain has also listed the top 5 best-selling Wii games to date, which are (drumroll please):
- Wii Sports (02/12/06) 2,663,938
- Wii Play (02/12/06) 2,139,084
- Mario Party 8 (26/07/07) 1,153,648
- Wii Fit (01/12/07) 1,113,626
- Super Mario Galaxy (01/11/07) 843,961
Once again, it’s sad to note the execrable sales performance of Super Mario Galaxy in its homeland. It seems the Japanese would rather prance about on a balance board and throw some shapes, a troubling sign of the times we live in.
