Wii is prescription for pain, warns doctor
In a time when even greasy burger merchants McDonalds are pointing the finger at videogames as the cause of obesity, it’s comforting to think that the Wii at least goes some small way towards encouraging exercise. It might not get you working up a panting sweat (unless you haven’t moved off the sofa since 1987), but those swings and jerks, especially in Wii Sports, must be doing us some good.
Not so, says a doctor in Cincinatti, USA who knows that too much of a good thing is bad for you. He’s warned of the dangers of over-exerting yourself on Wii Sports after a conga line of gamers arrived in his hospital complaining of aches and pains. Hang on, tell us something we don’t know.
Don’t worry, those pains are just muscles you never knew you had being called into action. The doc recommends “a little bit of stretching” to combat the effect. “Don’t play for hours and hours on end. Try to spread it out. We know it’s fun, it’s addictive, but keep it to a limit.” Alternatively, throw Wii Sports in the bin and just play Virtual Console games.
