Virtual Console 16/11/07 - Double Dribble and, er, that’s it

It… it’s all so quiet in here this week. Why is this place so empty? Is something going on? Nintendo had better get their act together. If they don’t start releasing more games soon, they’re really going to be in dire straits.

Hold on, somebody’s beckoning me over… Yeah? OK. Super Mario what? It’ll never sell.

Then again, some people - importers, pirates and idiots - won’t want a thing to do with the release of quite possibly the best game of this year. So in a token gesture, the Virtual Console has at least coughed up something to appease them, and that something is Double Dribble, a basketball game from Konami for 500 Points.

This is the NES version of the arcade game, a side-on, 5v5 game with digitised speech and some spiffing not-quite-FMV whenever you dunk the ball. We’ve been reliably informed it was alright for its time. Of course, like almost all NES-era sports games, it may be fun for a little while, but it doesn’t quite stand the test of time. Galaxy-haters probably won’t be appeased by this.
