Get high score, win the game - Galaxy tops Metacritic’s 2007 list
We’ve been idly checking up Super Mario Galaxy’s score in Metacritic over the past week or so. We were hoping that the score collecting website would point to a review of Nintendo’s masterpiece that would be less than favourable so we could stir up controversy in our quest to wonder why. But as we speak, nobody has gone against the grain at all. It’s been nines and tens all round and not one rebellious controversy-whore among them.
At the moment, Galaxy is scoring an average of a whopping 98 percent based on 28 reviews. That makes it the highest amongst previous 2007 darlings such as the Orange Box (PC version - 96%, 27 reviews), Bioshock (PC - 96%, 41) and Halo 3 (360 - 94%, 73).
It does, however, currently share the same score as both Soul Calibur (DC, based on 24 reviews) and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 (PSOne, 19). And it still has a small but steep mountain to climb to beat the almost perfect 99% (22) score given to Ocarina of Time.
Evidently we give the number of reviews the average is based on because not everybody’s finished reviewing it yet, and because it’s not exactly equal conditions. But if you think that average is going to dip down anytime soon, then we’ve got a couple of invisible gold bars we’d like to sell you.
