Royal Rumble - Kirby’s King Dedede announced as Brawl newcomer
Only two more characters to go (edit: probably) in the Super Smash Brothers Brawl Newcomers roster , and after the confirmed appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog last reveal, Nintendo are going to have to pull out all the stops in order to beat that announcement.
So who could it be? Rayman? Viewtiful Joe? Leon Kennedy? Mega Man?
Ah, hell. It’s King Dedede, over-sized penguin royalty, and Kirby’s nemesis. His weapon of choice is a mallet almost as big as himself, with his bulk putting him in the same heavyweight category as Donkey Kong and Bowser.
But, seriously, we’re a little disappointed. We’ve already got Meta Knight. We know Masahiro Sakurai, the man behind Brawl, had a hand in the Kirby series, but surely there’s a world of better characters to choose from. They’ve got one more chance to pull out something really impressive. Our wish is for Nintendo to reveal a brand new never-seen-before character about to appear in their next Wii-based franchise. Going on the basis of this decision, however, it’s going to be Dixie Kong. Please don’t let that be so.

Apparently Krystal (from the Starfox series) is going to be in Brawl.

@Hank: Yea, I would prefer MasterChief, Cloud or Sephiroth. Hell, I would like someone from FF to appear in SSBB. But it doesn’t exactly work like that. If SE doesn’t allow it, then Nintendo can’t put it in.
And I heard somewhere that there is a rule that everyone that appears in SSBB has to have appeared on a Nintendo system before. Practically ruling out MC.

Sorry for wanting an iconic Nintendo character in a game based on iconic Nintendo characters fighting eachother.

Uh, there’s still 3.5 months left until the game comes out. Not to mention that there’s been “one spot left” two times before this. They’re just gonna make a new row if there are to be more newcomers on the starting roster, like they did the past two times. Add in Falcon and this seems like a great starting roster to me.

Anyone who thinks MC is going to get into this game needs to get a blindfold, cigar, and a pistol aimed for their head.
Also, where did this site get this “2 remaining slots” idea from? There’s no slots, and there never were. We don’t have a cap on charactors, so there could be a millon for all we know. If I hear someone talk about slots one more time, I might flip.

… Two more characters to go? The hell? Charles Martinet himself said that that there were 20 new characters in Brawl when he did his share of the voicework for the game. Unless you’re assuming that they lack the ability to simply add another line of characters for the Newcomer section, which now that I think about it, you probably are. D:
And yeah… Dedede was the most requested character by far, probably only behind Sonic. Good luck trying to tell anybody at Smashboards.com (or Rainbow Resort for that matter) that he doesn’t deserve to be in over RAYMAN of all people.

@Muffin_man: Actually I’ll think you’d find that MegaMan was pretty sought after to be in SSBB too. I’d say: more so than King Dedede. Anyone back me up on this?
@Zach: I agree with your MC comment… albeit less vigorously. The chance of MC being in SSBB is 0.0001%. But never count out that 0.0001%… you never know.

Requests have shit all to do with any of this (Or should. In that case, F-Zero would have a second character). It’s purely deservability. And guess who was the most deserving character currently not shown (And in general, alongside characters like Diddy Kong)? Dedede. The ”BUT WE HAVE META KNIGHT” response is absolutely fucking retarded. Dedede’s the most important character in the franchise besides Kirby and guess what? He deserved to be in.

@WJUK Well, Mega Man IS highly requested, but I wouldn’t say more so than Dedede. On the Japanese poll on the old Brawl site (look it up if you don’t know what I’m talking about) Dedede got mentioned the most… Mega Man only got mentioned a couple times.
Admittedly, that poll was really only randomly chosen suggestions by Sakurai (and Sonic didn’t even get mentioned, even though Nintendo outright said Sonic was the most requested character), but it still shows that it’s quite likely that people wanted Dedede in more than another 3rd Party aside from Sonic.
And looking at that negative Dixie Kong comment, I feel the need to point out that K. Rool from the DKC’s got mentioned a couple times on that poll.

@Muffin-man: I was unaware of said poll… In all honesty, I would actually prefer Megaman over King Dedede to be in SSBB.
To be honest, I haven’t played any Kirby games (except the old one on the Gameboy… and I didn’t even finish that one) so I didn’t even know who he was. Adding another to the power-class (with Bowser & DK) may be good idea though.

OK, I admit I might be wrong. Let’s see, though: a newcomer is revealed roughly every two weeks. So if Brawl was originally set for a December release in Japan, and if we assume the Dojo was scheduling its announcements without that delay in mind, I suppose they could squeeze another whole row in there if the had it. If they do take the delay into account, that’s a whole lot more. As I said, I’m more than happy to be proved wrong.
But when Martinet talking about Brawl, Muffin-Man, are you sure he wasn’t including Assist characters in there as well? Where did you hear that?

Wouldve been cool to see Simon Belmont of Castlevania fame, be included in Brawl. He’s both Classic Nintendo, can provide a new theme and play style with his whip, and has a solid fanbase around the world.
