Prepare Yourself: Capcom registers “Dark Void” trademark

For the past couple of weeks, Japanese developer/publisher Capcom has been teasing us with a countdown clock on the front page of their community forum. There’s not much in the way of clues except an image of the Earth and an instruction to “Prepare Yourself”. Gamers are feverishly guessing what it could be, and Capcom have promised to deliver a head-exploding revelation in a press conference in London in two days time.

The problem is, you can’t keep a secret for long on the electronic interweb, especially when you have to register trademarks in public offices. Qj.net has dug up this application for a trademark on a new game called Dark Void. Whilst that doesn’t tell us anything about the theme or genre of the game, the marketing push shows that Capcom expect this new property to join the ranks of elite franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Mega Man, and more.

Alas, we haven’t got any clues as to which platform Dark Void will be appearing on either. But given how cosy Capcom and Nintendo have been together recently, it’d be a huge surprise if neither the Wii or the DS got a piece of the action. We’ll keep you posted as the story develops.

I wonder what will that be…. I hope it’s Megaman.EXE coming in Brawls, or the creation of a Megaman 9 :)
