Zelda used to teach maths
Last week we posted about a schoolteacher using the Wii as part of his lessons. It turns out that he’s not the only one; another teacher in New York is using videogames - specifically The Legend of Zelda - to teach his students mathematics.
If you’ll excuse the pun, something doesn’t add up here. The teacher is using the NES version of Zelda, which children today will be totally unfamiliar with. Modern games have moved way beyond blocky pixels and primary colours, and it says more about the teacher’s own experiences than it does his students.
Still, we can’t complain. Anything that makes gaming seem more respectable is okay with us. The next time your parents complain about spending too much time playing Zelda, just tell them it’s for your homework.
