Nintendo crowned top developer
Industry magazine Games Developer compiles a top-twenty list of game developers each year, and the latest edition features this years list. Having received several accolades for its hardware, Nintendo’s efforts as a software developer have been recognised as it takes the top spot from EA. The rankings do have some method behind them, and are calculated using factors such as the number of games released during the year, the average review score, a survey of 300 industry professionals, and the publisher’s revenue. After all this, Nintendo, came out on top.
This year’s winner Nintendo prevailed due to top marks for its game publishing in the reputation survey, alongside competitive revenue and average review score marks, leaving Electronic Arts in second place for the first time ever.
It looks like Nintendo is having quite a year, and they should score quite highly next year. With the likes of Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros. Brawl, Phantom Hourglass, and Mario Kart Wii to be taken into consideration for next year’s poll, Nintendo should be on top for that too! If you’re interested, the top five is as follows:
