Zelda advert compilation
With the imminent release of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass on the DS, DS Fanboy are having a Zelda Week. To kick things off, they’ve posted the above compilation of adverts from across the globe featuring many many Zelda games. It’s a great collection, and it’s funny to see what recurring themes pop up over the years. The US, for example, seem to like rapping about Zelda, whereas in Japan, puppetry is a preferred choice to sell you the games. There’s the epic and the comic, the cute and the creepy. As I was watching it, it struck me how many different Zelda games have actually been made, and how many different styles Link has had. I think my favourite advert is the one for the Ocarina of Time, which ends with the tagline: “Whilst thou get the girl, Or play like one”. What about you?

I noticed the same culture related differences in the tv commercials for the movie 300. The Italian spot showed the wife a lot, Germans and Americans were shown a lot of blood and the Spanish spot could have been used as advertisement for an adult movie.
