TGS ‘07: Blue Dragon blazing a trail on DS

Brace yourselves: Microsoft have given their blessing, and Mistwalker’s Blue Dragon is going to appear on the Nintendo DS. This role-playing game helped to sell a great many 360s in Japan (though not enough for Nintendo to lose any sleep). Presumably Nintendo will be wanting some of the same action by releasing a special edition DS Lite of their own.
Don’t get too excited just yet, because there’s a bit of a catch, as there nearly always is. This isn’t going to be a direct port of Blue Dragon per se, but rather a role-playing card game. To give you some idea of what that entails, compare and contrast the Metal Gear Solid franchise on the PS1 and PS2 with the the Metal Gear Ac!d series on the PSP. If that doesn’t fill you with dread, then feel free to sing and dance and shout or whatever it is you do when you’re happy.
We’re really impressed with the relationship that’s developing between Microsoft and Nintendo here. It’s not like the 360 and the DS are in direct competition or anything, and it’s an effective way of giving quality titles a new lease of life (and a bigger potential audience) outside of their golden handcuffs. And of course, Microsoft are bound to be getting a cut of the action.
The funny thing is, Blue Dragon on the 360 was an epic game that spanned across three discs. Does this mean the DS version will require three cartridges?
