It’s Ninja Week on the Virtual Console
It’s time to don those black jim-jams and sharpen the shurikens folks, because Nintendo is dedicating the second week of its “Hanabi Festival†to the way of the ninja. This coming week Wii owners can download some of the finest ninja-themed games from Japan and the US, and we’re not talking Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
First up is an original NES game from 1989, Ninja Gaiden. Players assume the role of Ryu Hayabusa, who’s on a quest across the USA to find his missing father. The game was famed for it’s cinematic presentation and challenging action, a tradition that continues to this very day, and it can be yours for a mere 600 Wii Points.
Following closely behind is a Japanese Famicom title from 1985, Ninja JaJaMaru-Kun (translation: “determined little ninja”), a quirky action-platformer that was hugely popular in it’s day. Players battle their way to the top of multiple stages, dispatching enemies by throwing stars, in an epic struggle to save Princess Sakura from the wicked Lord Namazu. Again, this title is available for 600 Wii Points.
Unrelated to the festival but also listed this week is a Turbografx sports title, World Class Baseball. This sports simulation allows players to choose from a selection of twelve different teams before competing against a friend or the computer to become the ultimate baseball champ. World Class Baseball is available now for 600 Wii Points.
All in all, not a bad round-up. We’d certainly be interested in revisiting the original Ninja Gaiden. It’ll be great training for when Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword is released for the DS.
