Mario and Sonic tipped for success

Although it’s a bit like saying Halo 3 will sell a few copies, Masanao Maeda, a corporate director at Sega’s game software division, has predicted that Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games will also be a bit hit when it gets released. I was dubious of this title at first, but there’s no doubt that the plumber/hedgehog combination is going to be a big selling point, and its very warm reception at Leipzig shows that it might actually be a rather good game.
How good, is another question, but SEGA believe that it will be good enough to shift 4 million copies. They were sensible, and didn’t put a timescale on this bold claim, but I think that it’s an achievable amount. Once the Olympics start and people get the urge to relive those button-mashing days of Track and Field, interest in Mario and Sonic will certainly increase. And if SEGA keep releasing trailers like their last effort, more people will start to take notice.
