Introducing Yosumin, new DS puzzle game from Square Enix
When you think of Square Enix, puzzle games ain’t the first thing to spring to mind. And yet here they are, developing exactly that for the Nintendo DS, with nary a Dragon Quest or a Final Fantasy in sight. It’s called Yosumin, and the aim is to clear a rectangular area before the timer runs out.
But of course, our descriptive powers fail to do the game justice, so follow this link to play a Flash version and judge for yourself. It’s pretty addictive, and there’s every chance that Square Enix could have a Picross-scale hit on their hands. In any case, it makes a refreshing change from the usual malarky involving swords and sorcery.
By the way, that rainbow helter-skelter on the top screen looks uncannily familiar. Does anyone remember a British kid’s TV show called “Jamie and the Magic Torch“?
