The Wii is a hybrid driven by geeks

GeekKotaku have reported about an interesting comment made by Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communication, George Harrison. He states that Wii owners are more likely to drive a hybrid car, rather than a pimped out ride with spinners and other such shiny things.

“Consider three 30-something suburbanites. On a Saturday morning, two of them drive their big SUVs into a tire shop to buy big new chrome rims. The third is home online, doing product comparisons to figure out which hybrid he wants to buy.”

Although he’s merely making the point that the Wii is not in direct competition with the Xbox360 and PS3, there maybe something in it. We already know that the Wii is the most eco-friendly console of the three, so it makes sense that us Wii owners would opt for the energy-efficient hybrid car. With the success of more mentally stimulating titles, like Big Brain Academy, we seem to love figures, therefore the comparison element rings true too.

I, myself, drive a nice, safe, plain Japanese car whose engine is small-enough to qualify for the lower costing car tax. It seems that Harrison knows his market pretty well! Whether it’s a good thing to be such a geek, is another matter altogether.
