We’re big fans of the original Red Steel, and we’re not scared to admit it. Which is why, after rumours of a sequel, we’re pleased to see further evidence that it is indeed going to happen.

The blurb for the forthcoming issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine teases readers with a preview of Red Steel 2, stating that it’s going to be “Bigger. Better. Bolder. Bloodier”. Okay okay, you want to hear something more substantial, right? Well stick this in your pipe and smoke it: it’s going to be playable online.

When we attended the press launch for the original game last year, the enthusiasm of the team working on this particular property was clearly palpable. By now they’ll have grown more confident with developing for the Wii, so here’s hoping they can build on the solid foundations of the original.

At the very least, the katana swordfighting should be a bit more refined and free-flowing, and leave players less inclined to commit hari-kiri.
