PES announced for the Wii

It’s the news that all footy fans have been waiting for. When details of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 were revealed back in July, there was no mention of the game heading to the Wii. There were rumours when the console was launched that PES would be making an appearance, so I was certainly disappointed to hear that a Wii version of PES 2008 would not be made.
Konami must have heard my deep sigh, as today they announced that a bespoke version of PES will be released on the Wii early next year. They are calling it PES on Wii, and the game has apparently undergone a radical rethink to utilise the motion controls in the best way possible. I really hope that they haven’t meddled with the game’s basic mechanics, as the recent versions have been the best representation of the beautiful game on any gaming machine. Let’s hope they keep it nice and simple, and Mario Strikers has showed us that a football game can be played extremely well on the Wii, without the need for excessive waving, twisting, and turning of the controller.
Worryingly, back in October last year, CVG reported that Shingo ‘Seabass’ Takatsuka, the game’s developer, had been experimenting with different ways of using the controller, including “strapping a remote device to a player’s foot for shooting”. Let’s just hope that they have rejected that idea.
