Wii nears the million mark in the UK

Wii Sales near One Million

We know that the global unit sales of the Wii are now over 10 million, but GamesIndustry are reporting that the amount of consoles sold in the UK should pass 1 million by the end of September. Although there is still some way to go before it overtakes the Xbox 360 in terms of sales (in the UK at least), it is predicted that it will be the number one console by the end of October.

Aussie-Nintendo are reporting a similar success story, but we also know that you can now get an Xbox 360 for the same price as a Wii down under. A similar strategy in the UK, coupled with the eagerly anticipated release of Halo 3 could keep the 360’s nose in front for a little while longer. It does seem inevitable, however, that the Wii will be king come Christmas.

To emphasise the impact the console has had on the gaming world, both reports state that the Wii has just about sold more consoles in its first 9 months on sale in the UK and Australia, than the GameCube did in those countires in its entire life. That alone should make Nintendo very happy.

Perhaps now they’ll start making British English versions of games and the rest of the Wii interface, so we don’t have to put up with American English everywhere.

    Probably not.
