360 Core now same price as the Wii - in Australia

xbox_360_aus_drop.jpgConsole price-cuts are spreading across Australia quicker than a bush fire, but not for the ones that matter.

Microsoft has lowered the price of the Xbox 360 across their various bundles, with the Core model now costing only $399.95 AUD. That means the price of a basic 360 down under is now the same as the Nintendo Wii.

It’s an eye-catching stunt (and one that reeks of panic), but is it enough to reignite sales of the big green machine? It probably will in the short term, especially with Halo 3 just around the corner. But the last we heard, the Core model was going to be phased out, mainly because the lack of a hard drive made it practically useless. Here’s hoping that the Aussie gamers are smart enough to steer clear of this supposed “bargain”.

Stick with the Wii, my friends! But you already knew that, didn’t you?
