Quake Done Cube - id’s FPS gets homebrew conversion

So much for id Software teasing us with the possibility of bringing their games to the Wii. We require no such thing when we can jump the railgun and get some nifty bedroom coders to do it for us instead. Bow, then, to Shub-Niggurath at the news that Peter Mackay of homebrew and emulation advocates DCEmu has released a beta of his playable-on-Wii Gamecube conversion of Quake, the first-person-shooter famous for being a) the follow-up to Doom and b) brown.
For those that care about technical things, prepare to rocket-jump for joy at this quote about performance: “Quake on Gamecube now runs At 320×264 (PAL), demo 1 runs at comfortably over 70 frames per second. At 640×528, it runs at just under 30.” No Wii controls, evidently, but we’ll hardly begrudge it for that.
Nintendo, not known for its tolerance of modding, emulation, and homebrew presumably won’t be welcoming this with open arms. They’ve got their work cut out, though, as the great thing about this scene is that each passing year sees it getting easier and easier for the gamer who possess the minimum of technical know-how. With that in mind, tell us if you’re looking forward to a future in which you’re prepared to suffer the wrath of Gunpei Yokoi’s ghost for a game of D/Generation. Or does all that business scare you rigid?
