WiiWare watch: Impossible Mission to make downloadable debut?

The first screenshots of Impossible Mission have surfaced on the interweb, with folks like Wii Fanboy speculating that it will be the first ever downloadable WiiWare title. If the rumours are true, it’s kinda disappointing. Really disappointing, in fact.
After all the anticipation and hype, the first game to emerge under the umbrella of this initiative will be a nostalgia orgy that only C64 fans will want to play. Granted, it’s a classic game from the days of yore, but we expected something new and original, something on the scale of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved for the 360.
Anyways, if you’re curious then there’re 17 screenshots to scrutinise over at NintendoWorldReport. The graphics are not what’d you call cutting edge, but they look bright and perfunctory. And as long as the underlying gameplay is not tampered with, that’s all you really need.
Also visible are some images of the original game before the 21st century facelift, and boy do they look ugly. Thankfully you won’t have to pay for that, it’s included in the package. Release date is scheduled for August 31st.
Take note, this blog will self-destruct in thirty seconds.
