Cookin’ Paella: Spanish senoritas love the Wii

senoritaparrot1.jpgThere we were, all set to write about something really boring like the mod-chip crimewave in America, when along comes this searing hot revelation… girls.

Specifically, Spanish girls. They like the Wii, apparently, and would rather spend some quality time with a vibrating Wiimote than any other console on the market.

According to a survey carried out by marketing consultancy The Cocktail Analysis, the Nintendo Wii is the most popular console in Spain, holding a market share of around 31%. It’s particularly well-liked among women and the older generation, who’re no doubt excited by the possibilities of games like Wii Sports, Big Brain Academy and Wii Fit. Needless to say, if it’s good enough for the ladies, then it’s good enough for us.

But seriously, that’s quite a turnaround for Nintendo. When they launched the GameCube in Spain it bombed spectacularly and brought disappointingly low sales. Barely 200,000 were purchased after the console hit the shelves. And now, memories of that failure have been entirely obliterated. Do you know how to say “Letsa go!” in Spanish?
