Project H.A.M.M.E.R. gets cancelled?

project_hammer.jpgNote to third-party developers: if you’ve ever wanted to make a game where you wield a giant hammer and smash evil robots, then here’s your chance. IGN reported last week (yes, okay, the news has only just sunk in) that Nintendo have quietly cancelled Project H.A.M.M.E.R. and reassigned the development team to other projects.

If true, it’s a bit of a shame. Nintendo’s current line-up of software is too heavily predicated on party games and the like, which is fine if you’re in a buffet kind of mood, but a fair portion of Wii gamers are hungry for something more meaty and substantial. Project H.A.M.M.E.R. looked like it could’ve filled that need.

Then again, early impressions of the game were that it was rubbish and the controls were faulty, so perhaps we’ve had a lucky escape. We’ll let you off this time, Ninty. But be warned, if you go and cancel Metroid Prime Corruption then we’re going to have a proper hissy fit.
