Halo DS evidence coming?

matt-blog-20070104071705722.jpgIt would seem that respected industry website IGN may have access to some information that could well show the shape of things to come. The Microsoft franchise Halo heading to the DS? Yes we have all heard these rumours before, however, it would seem that Matt Casamassina at IGN is intent on lifting the lid on Halo DS very soon.

During his latest reviews podcast Matt squarely and explicitly stated that Halo DS is no Nintendo fan boy myth!

“It’s a real game… we’re going to lay down some ownage next week or soon afterward by showing you guys that it is a real game.“

So, exciting stuff indeed, perhaps we will also find out if Halo DS is still work in progress or if it is unlikely to ever see the light of day. It will certainly be interesting to see the hard evidence on one of the most unlikely games ever mooted to be in production! We shall be keeping our eyes on IGN over the week to see if anything materialises.

Halo DS, if it ever existed, is thought to be an fps in a similar vein to Metroid Prime Hunters and that Bungie have managed to squeeze fantastic visuals, close to the quality we saw on the original Xbox, out of the sturdy DS.

If there is some sort of collaboration going on it maybe a rather smart move by Microsoft, giving permission to Nintendo to release the franchise on a handheld that simply cannot compete in the media player arena into which the Microsoft Zune will be launched. Could the power of the Halo franchise on the Nintendo DS be enough sway for PSP users to ditch the Sony portable and bury it for good leaving the path clear for the Zune to provide the next generation of portable media?

It could also be a Microsoft idea conceived to finally break the Japanese market with an incredibly well known game released on the stupidly popular DS.

It would be cool if ot actually happened!
But something is telling me it’s probably never going to happen, for a start if microsoft want to compete in the handheld gaming market then it would be wise to keep halo to themselves, there are tons of people now that are quite happy to own more than one console,so that none of them have a monopoly of sorts, and in the future i can see everybody owning more than one!
