The one year anniversary of the Wii name seems like a good day to showcase these two classic clips from the depths of YouTube. As mentioned earlier, there was two clearly divided sides when the console’s name was announced a year ago today — some loved it, others not so much. These videos are the best examples of those two factions. I think most have come around to the Wii name now but I could be wrong. What are your thoughts? Do you still think the world would be a better — and more masculine (see video no. 2 “Against” after the jump) — place with a Revolution instead? Read the rest of this entry »
A recent article over at Bloomberg states that Nintendo Co. — “the world’s biggest maker of handheld game players” — are currently working on 45(!) titles for their Wii console. That’s, frankly, a staggering number for one company to be working on at any given time.
According to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, we won’t be hearing anything about these games until the end of the summer months but good things come to those who wait and all that, right? Those who are complaining of a games drought on Wii right now will soon be silenced methinks. Forty five Nintendo-developed (translation: quality) titles are on their way. Source.
I was interested to see some of the first footage of Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree today and thought you might be to. Both videos here (a second is available to view after the jump) give an idea of some of the mini-games (tests?) that you’ll face in single or multiplayer modes. So far it’s looking pretty fast paced but, then again, that all depends on who’s playing. I’m normally a bit slower with it’s DS counterpart. Read the rest of this entry »
Hard to believe I know but believe it, readers. A year ago today Nintendo announced that the console we then knew as the Revolution would be forever known as the Wii. I remember hearing the news well (it feels like only yesterday). Forums and websites across the Internets couldn’t comprehend what they were being told. Wii? But doesn’t that mean, y’know, pee?
And back then, yes, that is what it meant. But not (as much) today. Wii is now a household name. A classic example of the evolution of language. It could all have been so different — you could’ve been reading RevolutionRevolution.tv right now! Happy birthday Wii, you’re growing up fast. Although we haven’t been together for long, we’ve known about you for a whole year now. Here’s to knowing you for a heck of a lot more.
Would you believe it? That’s another week down already and if you say that you’ve already had your fill of Lylat Wars (released last Friday) then I’d say that I don’t believe you. An argument would then, no doubt, ensue — I really, really like Star Fox games. Anyway, should this be the case (or if Wii points just burn a hole in your virtual pockets) then Nintendo have released another three titles for you to purchase and play on the Wii’s Virtual Console this week. They are:
Final Fight (SNES) 800 Wii points
Battle Lode Runner (Turbo Grafx) 600 Wii points
Mighty Bomb Jack (NES) 500 Wii points
I know which one I’d go for first (FF!), what about you?
TotalConsole are about to release a new I-Case mod for your Nintendo Wii that you can install yourself. Just look at it. We thought the Wii looked cute before, now it can look mean. The blue LED, clear case mod comes with everything you need to get yours looking like the pic above. “It’s perfect for those gamers who want to inject their Wii with a further healthy dose of fun and make their console stand out from the rest.” What do you think? Will you be modding yours anytime soon? Source.
I’m lost for words. I don’t know if it’s this video’s concept or just the awesome soundtrack but I love this random YouTube find. Why didn’t I see this earlier? It’s been around since January after all. And, even more importantly, why didn’t I think of doing it first? I’d look good as Rocky.
What do you do if you want to immerse yourself in the epic, sprawling storyline (?!) of Super Mario Bros but without the actual gameplay? What if you enjoyed the five minute game complete video we posted the other day but didn’t understand what the hell was going on? What if you just want a laugh? Well the folks over at FiveMinute.net have written a neat little one act script detailing the main story points from the title for all those gamers lacking the skill or time to complete it themselves. Honestly, it’s so accurate you’d think you were actually playing the thing. Here’s an example of what to expect:
Bowser: This time I’ve put some bricks in the way to stop you from jumping, Mario! Mario: Too bad I only have to bust the first one and run over you. Bowser: D’oh! Toad: Sorry, but our princess is in another castle. Mario: Again?
So, Nintendo have announced record-breaking profits and sold 5.84 million Wiis since launch. Not bad for a days work I’m sure you’ll agree. But how many of you out there are still waiting to get your hands on one? My guess is probably quite a few. I was lucky enough to get mine at launch but I know that so many of you were not as lucky.
You’ll be glad to hear, then, that Nintendo have promised to increase Wii production and predict to ship 14 million units worldwide by the end of the fiscal year. An interview with a Nintendo spokesperson over at GamesIndustry.biz reads: Read the rest of this entry »
You’ve probably seen these things kicking around the shelves of your local games stores for a while now but, if you’re anything like me, you’ve always left them to gather dust rather than purchase one. I think that’s going to change after you see this video. These Mario Kart remote control cars are a good size and come in a variety of characters. Best thing about them though is that they actually make all those sounds you’re hearing in the clip! Expect a lot of bruised ankles in my household soon. Source.
