Final version of Wii Opera browser due next month
Yes, that’s a trial version you’re using to surf the Web on your Wii. But Nintendo has announced that the final version will be released next month (April), with a host of improvements based on feedback from the likes of us.
What’s new? Improved zooming and scrolling, a tarted-up zoomed font, quicker startup times, faster access to your favourites, an option to hide the toolbar when not in use, and buttons to automatically type common letter strings, like www or .com.
Its April release is a bit later than planned, but on the positive side, it’ll be free to download until the end of June, after which you’ll have to pay 500 Wii points for it from the Wii Shop (the same as an NES Virtual Console game, in other words).
I do wonder about labelling it the ‘final’ version though. It’d be nice to think Nintendo could add new features in the months and years ahead, just as browsers like Firefox do on PC and Mac. Ah well.

Does that mean if I download it befre it becomes paid for it’s free, or is it time locked so after it becomes paid for I’ll have to buy it no matter when i download it?

[...] Here’s a clever marketing gimmick; visit the official website for Die Hard 4.0 using the Opera browser on your Wii, and you can play a special Flash game using your Wii-mote to control the action. [...]
