It’s a very rare occurrence when the abbreviation LOL can actually be used with any real authority; the three little letters are used all to often without the necessary audible giggle. Not this time though. No, the above video actually did make me Laugh Out Loud: the concentration on their faces; the sheer number of participants; the wash of relief that comes at the songs end when you know that, at last, after 700 unsuccessful attempts the stars and planets aligned in just the right way and they got it perfect.

But what really gets me is the thought of a friend bumping into one of these people in the street just before recording, starting some small talk and then asking “what have you been up to since I saw you last? Must’ve been two? Three weeks now?” I’d love to see that persons face turn from a mild, friendly intrigue to a sort of distant pity as they tell them that day and night they’ve been doing this, before walking away to find yet another empty beer bottle, tuned to perfection.
