Original downloadable games headed for Wii?
A recent interview with Hudson’s Director of Marketing — Kororinpa — gave birth to a quote that’s got the Nintendo world pretty excited. When asked if his company has plans to release any original content through the Wii’s Virtual Console he answered “no”, but then went on to say:
“However, in the future, you should rephrase that question to: ‘Are there any plans to launch original content on some downloadable service on the Wii,’ and you might get a different answer.”
What is this downloadable service that he speaks of? It’s not the VC; he claims that it’s purpose is “to bring back classic games, not to introduce new content.” Perhaps it’s a new channel, we just don’t know. It is an exciting prospect, and some original downloadable content can only be a good thing. Xbox360 players, like myself (don’t worry! Wii comes first), will know that all too well with its Live Arcade. Storage could be a problem with the Wii’s 512MB internal memory, but I still can’t wait to hear more about this.
