Super Paper Mario on Wii

Super Paper Mario on WiiWii

Though originally planned for the Gamecube, Super Paper Mario was held back for Wii release in the much the same way as The Legend of Zelda was (though, as far as I know, there won’t be a cube port of this one afterwards), and I’ve got to say: it’s looking awesome. Word on the Internets is that the game will be released in the US in April and — as per usual — there’s no word of a date on our shores yet.

Despite the super-cool style of the game, the thing that really gets me excited is the (rumoured) control system. Nintendo haven’t just tried to bolt-on wiimote functionality which would make it feel even more of a port than it already is, oh no. You’ll be able to control Mario by flipping your wiimote through 90 degrees and playing it like the old NES controller; that’s a d-pad and two main buttons. Perfect if you got yourself these decals in fact. Two Mario games due in 2007 for the Wii alone… Geez, I’d envy me if I wasn’t me already. Via 1up. [JC]

[...] Yeah yeah, so Super Paper Mario is coming out on Wii this year. That’s cool news, but not quite as cool as this short (and rather baffling) YouTube vid, which claims to show the REAL Paper Mario. As in literally paper. Some people have too much time on their hands… [...]

[...] We mentioned it a few months back and have been quietly sitting in darkened rooms since, getting more and more excited about Super Paper Mario on Wii. Now that the first TV adverts have begun appearing for the title we can finally start shouting about it from the rooftops. I have no doubt that this game will hold its own alongside the bigger games of this coming year (Metroid, Galaxy, Smash Bros. etc). Watch the trailer and spread the word: Mario has lost weight, and he’s on his way. [...]
