200,000 Wiis sold in the UK during December

wii1.jpgGive yourself a pat on the back (if you managed to get one, that is). Nintendo says it flogged almost 200,000 Wiis over the Christmas period, and a total of 700,000 across Europe.

And then remember those figures whenever you read scare stories of Wii-related injuries, so you can tell yourself how rare they are.

More than 500,000 people have bought The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess in Europe since launch day, while 320,000 snagged Wii Play. Of course, there is a downside to the console’s popularity, along with that of its little brother the DS Lite.

“We are facing such high demand for both platforms that unfortunately we are facing stock shortages,” says Laurent Fischer, marketing director at Nintendo Europe. “However we are doing everything possible to combat this by attempting to deliver both consoles and games to retailers on a daily basis.”
