Time Magazine Awards Wii Sports Top Spot In Gaming List
Time magazine have popped together a list of the top 10 video games of 2006, and whilst I would’ve jiggled the order around a bit, (and added in Animal Crossing: Wild World, which recently scored a favourable nod from one of my favourite blogs sites, UK:Resistance), it’s generally a fairly accurate microcosm of the gaming industry last year. What has me scratching my head a little is Time placing Wii Sports at number 1 - whilst I admit it’s a brilliant social game, definitely fun for a good few weeks, I hardly think it was the top of my own personal list. However, Time’s reasoning behind their rather puzzling choice would certainly pop a smile on Shigeru and co’s dials - ‘there is no possible way to say this enough times: great graphics don’t make great games. Perfect Dark Zero looked like a Titian, but it was a snooze. Wii Sportsâ€â€a mini-sports anthology that includes golf, boxing, tennis, baseball and bowlingâ€â€looks like Colecovision. The little guys on the screen don’t even have arms!’ Point taken. Fun overrules graphics anyday, in your face 360/PS3! (Or so sez Time Magazine, cowering behind the water tanks at the bottom of the football oval).
