Why 2007 can’t come fast enough: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Corruption on WiiWiiSo as we come to the end of our little list of “why 2007 can’t come fast enough” I had to end it on a big one, and they don’t come much bigger than this. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption completes the Metroid trilogy started on the Gamecube and looks set to finish the story with style.

Just as it predecessors before it raised the bar in terms of graphical standards on Nintendo’s last console, this title is sure to do the same on the Wii; the trailers, demos and screenshots that have been released so far look stunning.

Though originally intended to be a launch title for our beloved console it’s now been knocked back into May 2007 so you’ve got a wait ahead. Still - as DDP would say (forgive the obscure reference here) - that’s not a bad thing, that’s a good thing. The more time this game spends in development the better it’ll be when it hits stores. Developers Retro Studios have an excellent track record (they’re responsible for the previous two Prime games) so you know they’ll do this justice.

Fellow Wii first-person shooter Red Steel has met with some backlash after control issues. It seems the wiimote setup just was not suitable for some for playing the first-person perspective. Metroid Prime 3 (thrii?) is going to have it’s work cut out to redefine the FPS on Wii. Early E306 demos, however, show that the company is having no problems in that department so far.

We wait with baited breath.

[...] We we wrote about Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in our Why 2007 Can’t Come Fast Enough… series we said something along the lines of “though originally intended to be a launch title for our beloved console it’s now been knocked back into May 2007 so you’ve got a wait ahead”. Well, if it’s not immediately apparent to you already, let me inform you that you’re going to have to wait a little longer than that. New details that have just emerged state that the game will get a US release in August this year, 20th August to be exact. Still no word on a Europe date but lets just hope that we see it over here this side of Christmas. I don’t want to have to write a Why 2008 Can’t Come Fast Enough entry for it too. [...]
