Wii outsells the PS3… but what does this really mean?

dailytech_bestbuy.JPGLots of blather online about Wii outselling the PS3 in the US, and equating this to Sony being fecked, while Nintendo reigns triumphant. Really? I can’t help but think the first-week sales figures are much more down to how many consoles were actually available to buy, rather than any kind of proof that Wii is twice as popular as PS3.

Sure, there’s a good story there, in terms of Sony possibly struggling to get enough consoles onto the shelves. But in terms of popularity, I just don’t think we’ll be able to draw any firm conclusions until, ooh, next Christmas or so. Obviously, that’s no bar to comically biased and abusive conclusions – of which there’ll be many.

That said, I really enjoyed this article on DailyTech (that’s their pic), which takes a balanced and serious look at sales of the two consoles, with a bunch of first-hand research.
